Dorothy Mildred Palmer Hulett died Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona. Mrs. Hulett was born August 1918, in Wheatland, Wyoming to Charles Austin and Nora Belle Palmer. Dorothy was the 4th of 6 children. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Grinnell, Iowa.
Dorothy graduated from Grinnell College in 1940. She moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1953 and began teaching 2nd grade. Dorothy later received her Master’s in Psychology and began working with the school district evaluating children with learning disabilities. She loved music and passed that love of music on to her children and grandchildren. She also had the gift of hospitality. Christmas parties at her home were legendary. Before any presents could be opened, the attendees each shared an instrumental or vocal solo. Dorothy was very active in the Sun City community, participating in the SpinOffs, the Red Hat Society, the china painting club and as a volunteer on the Sun City cleanup crew. She and her husband traveled all over the world. Most importantly, Dorothy loved everyone she met and they loved her, too.
Dorothy’s husband of 40 years, Ray Hulett, preceded her in death, as did her children, Dr. David Yandell and Laurel King.
Mrs. Hulett is survived by her sister Jean Whitehead, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 9AM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary and Cemetery, located at 719 North 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
