Gary was born at the family home on the Probst family farm to Kenneth and Dora Probst. Growing up, he loved outdoor activities and had many different hobbies. He attended Glenwood High School in Minnesota and was part of the 1965 graduating class. After high school, Gary enlisted in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Germany as an Administrative Specialist. During his leave, he traveled throughout Europe, enjoying everything his travels had to offer. After his military service, Gary attended Control Data Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to study computers. During this time, he met the love of his life, Pat, while working at a drugstore. They were married on May 29, 1971. Gary graduated in August of 1970 and soon after secured a job at AT&T Bell Labs in Naperville, Illinois. He continued his education on the GI Bill at the College of DuPage in Illinois, earning an Associate Degree in 1983. Gary's job transferred him to Westminster, Colorado, in 1983, and he retired in 2000 with exactly 30 years of service. In 2009, Gary and Pat moved to Sun City, Arizona, where Gary enjoyed playing golf until he became handicapped.
Gary is survived by his wife Pat, the love of his life, his sisters LuAnn and Dianne, along with her husband Tom, as well as two step-grandsons and his daughter-in-law. Gary and Pat had one son, Benjamin, who predeceased them.
Gary had a passion for basketball, camping, riding his motorcycle, and gardening until he discovered golf, which became his true passion. For years, he spent every vacation traveling across the United States, playing various golf courses.
