

James Frederick Goodman, 83 of Peoria, passed away on February 13, 2017 following years of struggle with Leukemia. He was born in Detroit, Michigan August 19, 1933, the only child of Jasper and Bluma Goodman, who preceded him in death.
Upon graduating Central High School in 1951, he joined the Navy during the Korean conflict and was sent for basic training to the Marine Depot in San Diego. Jim met the love of his life in home town Detroit and married Shery Sheila (Green) on a blind date arranged by close friends and married in October, 1951. They enjoyed a devoted 59 years of marriage.
He trained as a Dental Technician, serving at several bases over 22 years, ending his military career retiring and relocating the family to Glendale, AZ in 1973. He continued his education at Glendale Community College, earning an AA Degree. Jim went to work for the City of Phoenix, Parks, Recreation and Library Dept. as an Administrative Assistant in 1977, retiring in 1995 and moving to Sun City.
Jim joined the Sun City Posse in 2000 and served as a patrolman for 15 years. He devoted his life to charitable endeavors, joining and actively serving the Masons, Shrine Scottish Rite, Navy League, American Legion, Elks and several Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. An avid sports fan, his favorite was always Army-Navy contests.
Jim and Shery enjoyed many years of cruises and travel after retirement and loved seeing the sights and making memories in the United States, Canada and may foreign countries. Jim loved spending quality time with grandchildren and visiting family and friends living coast-to-coast. In 2015 he moved to The Forum, a retirement residence in Peoria, and was very active in resident governing boards.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shery S. Goodman; sons Howard and Robert (April), daughters Lori Randel and Julie and 6 grandchildren; Alex (Lauren) Randel, Amy Randel, Summer Bell, Zachary, Maria and Faith Goodman. Jim will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2:00 PM, at the Sun City Masonic Lodge#72, 18810 N. 107th Ave., Sun City,
Arrangements under the direction of Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary & Cremation Center, Sun City, AZ.
