Joan Marie Miller

Joan Marie Miller, originally from Sun City, AZ passed away on March 7, 2015. She was born on November 1, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA to William & Josephine Miller. She lost her father tragically at the age of 13 and stepped into being an adult at a young age, including raising her younger brother and becoming the primary caretaker for her mother for over 40 years. Even though she never had children of her own, she mentored and parented many people throughout her life. She worked in the field of accounting most of her life, had an Associate’s degree from St. Joseph’s College but decided in her 70’s to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Math with minor Physics from Grand Canyon University. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis for decades and was a godparent to several children. In her 70’s, she also pursued a Black belt in Karate from Hwarang Phoenix Academy, which she was awarded a few days before her passing. Her entire life was focused on her love for learning, her connection to God and finding the positive despite life’s circumstances. She is survived by her brother William Albert Miller, his wife Marie, their 4 children, - Anne, Mary, William and Elizabeth, several cousins, extended family and friends. Mass will be at 1 pm, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 15800 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City AZ.
