We were shocked & heart broken to hear of Joyce passing on.  The fun and laughs we had over the many years.  Tubing down the Salt river and our trips to Las Vegas. Today I tried calling her to wish  her a Happy Birthday  and found the phones disconnected.  You will be greatly missed, but I'll always have the memories.

Part 1 - When I was 11 years old, Peter and Joyce moved in across the street from my house. For the next several years, I probably spent as much time over there as I did in my own house. So, thank you Joyce (and Peter, Lisa and Dickie) for putting up with me for all that time. I’m sure there were plenty of times that they wondered if I had just moved in and nobody told them. And if I wasn’t at the Calden house, there was a good chance that one or more of them were at my house, either swimming, having dinner, playing basketball in the driveway or playing pinball in the garage. Thank you Dickie for making me help you deliver newspapers before the sun came up and for carrying way more than your half of too many couches. And thank you Lisa for putting up with your goofy neighbor that had a crush on you when we first became friends. The Caldens lugged me along for my first visit to Las Vegas and a family vacation in Hawaii. By the way, is there any other city that fit Joyce’s personality better than Las Vegas? I’ve never seen one. Bright, lively, loud and exciting!

There are some people who come into your life who you just know you will never forget. It might be their looks, or actions, or opinions, or personality, or various other things that permanently imprint them into our memories. For Joyce, she had more than enough off all those things, but it was her voice that I will never forget. That loud, slightly raspy, Boston-accented voice of hers is something I will have with me forever. I can close my eyes right now and hear her voice so clearly it would be as if she was standing right in front of me.

Part 2 - She would probably be laughing at one of her jokes or telling me her opinion on something (Everything!). And she would probably be telling me for the third or fourth time. It wasn’t as if it was hard for any of us to hear Joyce. But she needed to make sure you understood what she was saying. I can’t tell you how many times she told me that she was “penny wise but dollar foolish” and then proceeded to explain it to me, as if she hadn’t explained it to me last week. I wish you could see the smile on my face right now. I’ll never forget the time she told how we said the word “car” differently and then made me try to say it like I was from Boston. Saying it slowly so I could hear it clearly and then having me repeat it. Needless to say I didn’t pass the test, but I bet Matt Damon is proud of her for trying. And my smile is even bigger now!

I could give you so many other examples, but I think you all get the point. Joyce made my life as a kid better, more interesting, more fun. It just takes many years for a teenager to realize that. Joyce, thank you for being you. I love you and will miss you. And I certainly will never forget you!

Joyce was one of a kind!  Always happy , made you smile, loved her family and friends. She will be missed by all!  She was one of those people that you may not see for a long time but the next time you run into her you pick up where you left off. She always talked about Peter and how he was doing, the kids and grandkids and she treated you like family. She was a very special person and you were lucky to have known her💕

Dear friend, you will be missed.  So many memories of you.   Rest In Peace, Joyce.
