Marjorie H. Fink, age 88, peacefully passed in the morning of October 17, 2016 while in hospice care at Ryan’s House. Daughter of Evert Morse Hiler and Ruth Longfellow Hiler she was raised in Rochester and East Aurora, New York. Mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she lived a full and active life that included family, traveling and volunteering.
During a visit to Arizona at the age of 10 she set her sights on making AZ her home. Her passion for AZ history and beauty brought the family back in 1970 and she hit the ground running volunteering and fundraising at The Phoenix Zoo and Auxiliary.
After 30 years of volunteering, and at the age of 69, she became an employee of the Zoo continuing to raise money and giving tours until the age of 80.
During those same years she also volunteered at Hospice of the Valley, started the Purse Ministry for UMOM and donated funds to Hopi boys and girls registered with Futures for Children, she was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood. She and her late beloved husband, Charles enjoyed summers and volunteering in Prescott, AZ.
Her contributions to the betterment of society, Native Americans and preservation for the animal species (especially elephants and orangutans) will live on well past the 88 years she spent here.
She is deeply loved by her family and friends and is survived by three daughters, son, two grandsons and a great-grandson. If you wish to honor Marjorie, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to one of her passions – The Phoenix Zoo.
