

Maxine H. Peterson, 93, of Sun City West died January 28, 2017. Mrs. Peterson was born on August 5, 1923 in Delta, Utah to Flora and LeRoy Hopkins. She married Richard N. (Dick) Peterson in 1943 and after WWII they made their home in Salt Lake City. She attended the University of Utah, graduating in 1963 with a degree in Education. Moving to Wenatchee, WA in 1963 Maxine taught elementary school, co-owned the Yarn Shop with her sister, and worked beside her husband in the Arctic Circle Drive Inn. In 1987 she and Dick retired to Sun City West, AZ , where he died in 1991.
Mrs. Peterson was active in her community, tutoring elementary students, working at the food bank, volunteering at Del Webb Hospital and as a member of AAUW. She moved to Grandview Terrace in 1997 when it first opened where she mentored many new residents and made many new friends.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by two daughters, Diane Coke of Gurnee, IL and K. Jean Peterson of Wadsworth, IL.; three granddaughters, Tracy (Chris) Kasch of St. Petersburg, FL, Kim Popovich of McHenry, IL and Kristi (Ritch) Dembinsky of Wadsworth, IL; eight great-grandchildren; and brother John Koiter of Santa Fe, NM.
A private service will be held to inurn her next to her husband.
