Merlyn Veora Fredman, age 99, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Merlyn was born October 18, 1926, on the family farm in Spruce Hill Township, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Alexandria High School. Following high school, Merlyn became a “Rosie the Riveter” working in a defense plant in Minneapolis assembling oxygen masks for the army and navy fliers until the end of World War II. She then attended and graduated from Augsburg College (BA) and University of Minnesota (MA).
Merlyn began a long career teaching high school mathematics in Kennedy, MN; Rainier, WA; Bakersfield, CA; St. Louis Park, MN; followed by nearly 30 years in Phoenix, AZ before she retired in 1989. Summers were spent in Rose City visiting her mother, brothers, nephews, and nieces. She took care to invest time in each nephew and niece taking them fishing and arranging visits with them. Thanksgiving and Christmas were often spent in southern California visiting her only sister, brother-in law, and two nieces.
Merlyn’s life was defined by her Christian faith. She was a long-time member of Community Bible Study in Sun City, serving as Treasurer for 24 years.
Merlyn is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia Fredman and siblings: Phyllis (Art) Helling, Kenneth Fredman, Arlie (Betty) Fredman and Eldred (Marlys) Fredman.
