

Paul Richard Sauerbrey III, 80, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, after a long illness of prostate cancer. Born on September 10, 1945, in San Mateo, California, Paul lived a life defined by service, dedication, and devotion to family and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Richard Sauerbrey Jr. and Adelaide Elizabeth Buettner Sauerbrey.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era before beginning a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. He spent more than 32 years with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, where he earned the respect of colleagues and the community alike through his professionalism, leadership, and commitment to public safety. He retired as a Lieutenant in 2001.
Following retirement, Paul and his wife Renee relocated to Coconino County, Arizona, where his commitment to public service continued. He served as Chief Bailiff and Head of Security for the Coconino County Superior Court, bringing the same sense of responsibility and integrity that defined his law enforcement career.
Outside of his professional life, Paul enjoyed many passions that brought him joy and relaxation. He was an avid photographer, a devoted fly fisherman, and had a lifelong fascination with railroads. He also valued fellowship and service through his membership as a Master Mason, becoming a Past Master of two Lodges, Flagstaff No. 7, and Central Arizona No. 14 and as a member of the El Zaribah Shrine Mounted Patrol. Paul was also a member of the Flagstaff Elks Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Renee; his children, Alan, Kevin, and Carrie McQuarrie; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was deeply loved by his family and will be remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and lifelong dedication to serving others.
Paul's life was one of honor, service, and quiet strength. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, both in his career and within his family and community.
