Richard William Van Rossem

Richard “Dick” Van Rossem passed away from Covid 19 complications on November 27, 2021, at the age of 73, in Sun City, Arizona. Despite the debilitating effects of this virus, he put up a courageous fight with family by side.

He was born to William and Virginia Van Rossem on April 8, 1948, in Superior WI. Surviving in a house full of sisters: Gloria, Joanne, Diane, Gail, Jocelyn, Sheri and one brother Mark, by spending time at the lake with his close posse of friends causing mischief.

Dick met the love of his life Karen, the old school way, in a bar. She just couldn’t resist his GTO, tight bell bottom pants, dark hair and dimpled smile. Together, they had three children: Brianna, Matthew and Mark.

Dick was particularly proud to have served as a member of the Superior School Board, as well as a long serving member as a Superior City Counsel Representative. As the Douglas County Senior Center director, he delighted in calling Bingo and flirting with all the “older” ladies.

He made friends everywhere he went with his larger than life personality, often ignoring the cues from loved ones signaling that he has talked someone’s ear off. The Green Bay Packers were his team of choice, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He’s got the ultimate “Sky Box” tickets now, and we’re sure he’s nudging God’s hand to influence the game in their favor, “and so on and so forth”. Karaoke was another great passion of Dick’s. He could belt out a solo or duet with the enthusiasm of a young rocker singing a concert for a sold out stadium.

Loved ones that have cleared the path, his wife Karen, parents Bill and Virgie, and sister Diane. Loved ones that will miss Dick until they meet again are his daughter, Brianna, sons Matthew (Theresa), Mark (Rachel) and grandsons Bryant, Jackson, Hunter, Ryker, Beckett, siblings Gloria (John), Joanne (Pat), Gail (Tim), Jocelyn (Kevin), Mark, Sheri (Rees) and significant other Dian.

A funeral service is scheduled on December 4, 2021, at Sun City West Christian Church, 20803 North 151st. Ave, Sun City West, AZ 85375. Visitation: 10:30-11:30, Service: 11:30-12:30, Reception: 12:30-1:30
