Saundra Lee Nicely was born on August 15, 1935, in Dayton, Ohio. She was the daughter and only child of Kenneth Lloyd Nicely and Amanda Combs Nicely. At the age of six, she moved with her parents to Phoenix, Arizona and came to consider herself a native Phoenician. She spent most of her professional life working as a keypunch operator for Motorola.
Sandy was an avid sports fan. She was a season ticket holder for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Rattlers and ASU Sun Devils Football. Not only was she a sports fan watching others play their sport, but Sandy belonged to the women’s Encanto golf league and excelled in her own sport.
Sandy enjoyed playing and hosting card games with her many friends. Not being a big gambler, two of her favorites were Triopoly for a whopping 35 cents a game and penny poker.
One of her most cherished loves was bringing animals into her home by adopting older dogs. Her most precious canine was Max.
Good humor, generosity, and a carefree spirit were some of the traits that were most shared with her friends and acquaintances. Sandy was described as the “dearest and one of a kind”. She passed away on June 20, 2024. Sandy will be buried with her parents in a private ceremony at Sunland Mortuary in Sun City. A celebration of life will be held at the Beatitudes Campus 1616 W. Glendale Avenue on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
