Ginny Megenity, passed peacefully into her heavenly home in the arms of Jesus on March 22, 2012 after a rich and full life spanning 96 years. Her youth was spent in the Mississippi River Valley of central Illinois; and for the past 35 years in the high desert of Sun City and Scottsdale.
Born September 18, 1915 in Mt. Vernon, IL, to Grace (Yearwood) & Leslie Smith. Together with her younger brother Paul, the family moved to E. St. Louis when Ginny was age 8. After graduating East High School in 1932, she worked at Stix Bear and Fuller Department store, then married Richard (Dick) Megenity in 1936. In 1939 they were blessed with Janet, and Richard (Rick) in 1944. In 1953, they relocated in Seattle WA, where they were very active in the North Seattle Alliance Church. During this time, she worked briefly at Butler Brothers Department Store, and then for twenty years in the Safeco Insurance corporate offices. After retiring in 1978, she and Dick moved to Sun City, joining Grace Bible Church, where they excelled on the welcoming staff in the church lobby. When Dick passed in 1996, Jenny moved into Wooddale Senior Apartments; in 2006 to Desert Flower Scottsdale, then Trinity Homes of Scottsdale in 2010.
She is survived by daughter Jan (Cameron) Sharpe of Scottsdale; son Rick (Carol) Megenity in Edmonds, WA, Grandchildren: Cameron (Susan) Sharpe, and Rick Sharpe of Scottsdale; and Lisa (Paul) Jackson of Paradise Valley; Kelly (Jerry) Hansen of Monroe, WA; Ryan (Arin) Megenity), Mukilteo WA; and Micah Megenity, Lake Stevens, WA; and Great Grandchildren: Codi, Cameron, Anna, Lindsay, Amy, Carson Claire and Paige.
A private service will be held at Sunland Memorial Park April 11. Ginny’s wish is that Memorials be directed to Simpson Bible University or Hospice of the Valley.
