

William Burke Mooney, passed away peacefully at home of Congested Heart Failure on July 29, 2011. He was born on August 24, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa to William Hugh and Lenore Burke Mooney. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna and his first wife Elnore. He leaves behind his loving and caring wife of 35 years, Margery and her son Terry Alan Rogers and daughter Pamela Jo Beyer, both of Surprise, AZ; as well as son William J. Mooney (Sue) of Columbus, OH, daughters Patricia Ann Milam (Jim) and Marianne Mooney of Little Rock, AR, and Martha Webb (Bruce) of Gainsville, MO. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great- step- grandchildren.
Bill had a long and successful career as a practicing attorney, a professor of law and businessman. After receiving his PH.D. and J.D. Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1942, he went on to serve several years as a Special Agent of the F.B.I. from 1942-1948. He then continued his professional career by serving as staff counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee.
He practiced law for many years in Iowa and led to a career as a Professor of Law at the University of Iowa, the University of Wyoming and Arizona State University. During these years he lectured widely on Constitutional Law changes as it pertained to the Juvenile Court.
Bill authored and published two books, “Children in the Arizona Legal System” (1989) and “Adult Probation in Arizona” (1990).
In more recent years he has been associated with several highly successful small business corporations in Iowa, Arizona and Nevada.
Bill was an active participant in Alcoholics Anonymous for many years. It has been a strong and positive part of his life from his earliest post-graduate years.
Bill and Marge enjoyed many travels around the United States, Rome, Hawaii and the Bahamas. They were both great fans of Notre Dame University football, the Suns, Diamondbacks as well as the NY Yankees.
Visitation for Bill is Wednesday, August 3rd at 3pm-6pm at Sunland Mortuary in Sun City, AZ. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, August 4th at 10am at Sunland Mortuary, followed by a burial service at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale, AZ.
