Anthony (Tony) Marro was born in Elgin, Illinois on September 27th, 1973 to Anthony J. and Irene D. (McElligott) Marro. Tony grew up in a loving family in Lombard, Illinois where he graduated from Willowbrook High School in 1991 and then graduated from University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a degree in accounting. Tony enjoyed a typical midwestern childhood surrounded by family and made lifelong friends especially Terry Schraag whom he met in kindergarten and can testify that Tony had the strongest arm in their childhood baseball league. Tony spent a lot of time playing outside and enjoying traditions like annual trips with extended family to local amusement parks and apple picking. Tony loved playing and watching sports especially his beloved Kansas City Chiefs.
In his twenties, the warmer weather of San Diego, CA was calling his name and he ventured out to pursue new experiences. His cross-country move ignited his desire to travel. Whether it be Hawaii, Las Vegas, England and countless other destinations, he enjoyed exploring the local cuisine, entertainment, culture or a few rounds of golf. He continued to work as a CPA and in management across many different settings which solidified his appreciation for being a lifelong learner, problem solver and leader. Throughout his life he continued to be a devout son helping to care for his father who was diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition at a young age and for his mother in her times of need. Tony was the treasured friend, nephew and cousin to many especially, Steve Wells, Terry Kiely, David Duro, Carolynn Roover, Johnny Dolstra, Annie, and Danny.
In his spare time, Tony was an avid golfer and football fan and also developed his art of cooking, French baking and painting. He would spend hours perfecting recipes to share with his family and friends. He also enjoyed a good Italian meal in Little Italy. Listening to Tony talk about food would make anyone’s stomach rumble and he enjoyed sharing his gift of cooking and baking with others.
Tony described himself as “best friend to man’s best friend” which exemplifies his unconditional love for his Bulldog, Elsa and his Shiba Inu, Yoshi. He said that when he dies, if he sees his former dog, Diesel, waiting for him, he’ll know he made it to Heaven. Tony wanted to save as many dogs as possible and children from childhood cancer . If you choose to do so, in honor of Tony’s memory , you can make a contribution to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
