Carolyn Marie Dorland, 72, of Seattle, Washington, passed away suddenly on June 15, 2013 in Sun City West, Arizona. She was born on May 21, 1941 in Seattle, Washington. Carolyn was an accomplished figure skater with a passion and love for the sport. Starting lessons when she was four, she would go on to compete in the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley. Soon after Carolyn met Dave on a blind date. It was truly love at first sight! Carolyn and Dave married soon after and started the family they would dedicate the rest of their lives to. Carolyn's love and dedication to her husband and children defined who she was. Raising one strong willed daughter and four rambunctious boys was no small feat, and when they became adults, she would regale you with stories of their adventures. Somehow she managed in her spare time to start an interior design company, Distinctive Interiors, through which she used her eye for style and class to beautify many Seattle homes until her retirement in 2011. Carolyn had a warm and generous spirit making countless friends along the way. She loved to spend time with her family cruising the San Juan Islands spending many summers there. Carolyn and Dave would continue to travel, most recently getting out of the Seattle gray to spend winters in Surprise, Arizona. Carolyn will be forever loved, missed, remembered, and cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, David K. Dorland; one daughter, Sondra LaBaron; four sons, David Jr (Erica), Derek, Dusty (Kendra), and Jason (Sara); ten grandchildren, John, Justin, Crista, Emma, Truly, Ryan, Leia, Luke, Taylor and Maile.
