Edward "Ted" Arthur McDonald

Edward Arthur McDonald passed away on February 28, 2026, at the age of 82. Born July 18, 1943, Edward was an adventurous, beloved, brave, cherished, and hard-working man whose life reflected quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and enduring purpose. After this introduction, he will be remembered as he was affectionately known as Ted.

Ted was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, to his loving parents, Lillian and James McDonald. From his earliest years, he carried forward the values that would define him throughout his life—commitment, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved and to the communities he served. Ted was a devout Catholic and practiced his entire life.

Ted pursued higher learning at the University of Bridgeport (member of Alpha Gamma Phi fraternity and ROTC), earning a bachelor’s degree in education—an achievement that reflected both his discipline and his belief in the value of knowledge and teaching. In 1967, Ted expressed his patriotic beliefs by enlisting in the United States Army, serving with pride and honor. During his time in service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

While in Korea, Ted met the love of his life, Marina. Their enduring love lasted more than 56 years, and together they built a family centered on devotion and care. Ted was a proud and devoted father to their two sons, Patrick and Ryan, whom Ted and Marina loved dearly. Ted and Marina settled in California where his two sons were born. Ted and his family moved to Washington state and lived there for 40 years.

During this time in Washington, he was devoted husband, father, and coach. He enjoyed coaching his sons in all sports including baseball, soccer, basketball, and football. He eventually retired to Arizona and found a new passion for golfing and trading army stories with his many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Marina; sons Patrick (with wife Cecily, children Ali and Aria) and Ryan (with wife Beth, children Wesley and Eliza). He is also survived by his two brothers, James and Larry.

His legacy will live in the hearts of his loving family and friends. Ted will be forever remembered at the National Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. His memory will be cherished through the stories shared and the many lives he touched.
