

Fred was born May 7, 1926, in Kenosha, WI to the late Ana (Cerny) and Anton Burger. Fred spent his early years working at his father’s Burger Tavern and Hall in Kenosha. He graduated from Kenosha High School in 1944. Fred served during World War II as a US Navy Radioman in North Africa and Europe. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and moved to California in the mid-1950’s. He worked in the aerospace industry as an engineering technical writer and later operated a financial planning and tax preparation service. His many interests included sports, music, dancing, fishing, history and reading. He proudly cheered on his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs, Wisconsin Badgers, and Green Bay Packers.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Retha, daughters Karen, Michelle (Darrell), son Frederick II (Shannon), stepchildren Joe (Laura), John, Jim (Meri), Jennifer (David), grandchildren Alex (Kelly), Andrew (Nuria), Anna, McKenzie, Clayton, Maggie, Ava, Travis, Trevor, Kaitlin, Gabriela, Matthew, Tifanie, Ryan, great-granddaughter Ellen, nieces Barbara and Margaret, nephew Anthony, sister-in-law Betty and long-time family friend Karen Dosemagen. Fred was predeceased by his parents, brother, Frank and sister, Justine, all of Kenosha.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2021 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with a reception to follow. www.surprisefuneralcare.com
