Merle Audrey Wade (nee Batterson), age 90, passed away Saturday morning, 19 Dec 2020, at her home in Waddell AZ. She was born at home in New Milford NJ on 09 Dec 1930 to George E. (Sr) and Beatrice Batterson. She was married to Arthur F. Wade on 22 Jun 1952, who preceded her in death on 19 Oct 2001.
Merle was a homemaker and devoted mother, raising three children, in New Milford and Bergenfield NJ; in later years, she returned to work outside the home, at Saks Fifth Avenue and at NAPL, as well as helping care for her father and brother in their later years. As a child herself, and then later with her own family, she spent many summers at the Batterson family vacation house on Lake Hoptacong (NJ). Eventually, as all three of her children migrated to the Southwest US in 2014, Merle joined the exodus, left her beloved New Jersey, and moved to her new home in Arizona.

Merle is also survived by her sister Virginia Gonzalez of Hopatcong NJ. Other survivors include grandchildren: Jacob F. Wade, Dr. Jeremy P. (Becky) Wade, Earl S. (Jaime) Gould, and, Phillip (Tonja) Lazier; and, great grandchildren: Wyatt X. Wade, Westyn A. Wade, and Breelynn Lazier. In addition to her parents and husband, Merle was preceded in death by her brother George E. Batterson, Jr.
Among many other living relatives and friends, Merle kept in continued contact with cousin Janet Atwater of Oradell NJ, cousin Alexandra Abbott of Sedona AZ, dearest sister-in-law Jeanie Wade of North Baldwin NY, and former high school classmates Barbara and George Zurich of Montvale NJ. The family wishes to kindly acknowledge the excellent and caring support provided by Banner Hospice as well as Homewatch Caregivers of Goodyear, who permitted Merle to spend her last weeks in her own home.
A private cremation is planned. The final resting place will be internment in the Batterson family plot in Hackensack Cemetery in Hackensack NJ, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Merle requested contributions be made to your favorite local animal shelter.
