Tyrone Taylor

Tyrone Taylor passed away peacefully at age 83 on the morning of October 21, 2023 in Vail, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Jacqueline DeLois Taylor who passed away June 1, 2023. Tyrone was affectionately and simply referred to as Tyrone by his loving wife and Dad from his two surviving sons, Jeffrey Herbert Taylor and Terence Tyrone Taylor. Tyrone was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on November 23, 1939, son of the late Herbert Lester Taylor and Athenia Porter Taylor.

Unbeknownst to Tyrone, Big Stone Gap, Virginia would be the place that he would eventually meet his future wife, Jacqueline. They had known each other since Elementary school and were soon High School Sweethearts.

Tyrone graduated from James A. Bland HS Big Stone Gap, VA in 1958 and received his degree in Education at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. He was employed as a Junior High and High School Math Teacher for over 30 years; 13 of those years for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. At Ramstein High School, he also coached Football and Basketball. Through his leadership and the talented young men on the basketball team, he became a successful championship winning basketball coach.

During his teaching career, he was a well respected educator who put his students at ease with his jovial nature. However, at the beginning of his career, in the 1960's, when "corporal punishment" was allowed, if you acted up in class, you would get “the paddle”. This paddle was made of wood and wrapped in masking tape and those who were “ lucky enough” to meet that fate, would get the honor of inscribing their name on the paddle. During his various tenures as an educator, he fast became a student favorite and the students would affectionately refer to him as, Mr T.

As Dad, Tyrone always put his boys first and supported all of their endeavors. Most importantly, he taught his sons how to become responsible men and to put Jesus first in their lives.

He will be greatly missed by his Son – Jeffrey H. Taylor; Daughter-in-law Maxi Taylor; Son – Terence T. Taylor; Daughter-in-law Daphne Taylor; Brother – Jerome Taylor; Cousin Tina Deal; Cousin Luvenia Yarbrough; Brother-in-law – Paul Rier; Granddaughter - Stephanie Taylor; Grandson – Dominique Taylor; Granddaughter Cristina Dean; Granddaughter - Shayna Taylor; Grandson – Maximilian Taylor; Grandson Nicholas Taylor; Great Grandson – Hudson Dean; Great Grandson Trae Taylor; Great Granddaughter – Amelia Dean; Great Granddaughter Ava Rose Taylor; and a number of nieces and nephews from extended families.
