Alice died peacefully at 98 years of age. Alice was part of a large farm family that was of modest means, but rich in their love and support for others. Raised in a prairie sod hut, she was schooled in the classic one-room schoolhouse and with her sharp mind, thrived on learning the lessons of more senior grades. Alice met her future husband Len from a nearby town, and they were married in Calgary, Alberta, in 1940. Son Larry arrived in 1941 and daughter Karen in 1942. After working in various locations, Alice and Len eventually settled into the emerging Alberta oil industry. She became a very skilled card player and curler, winning many bonspiels and awards over the years. They retired to Vancouver and enjoyed their lifestyle there. Alice was deeply in love with all of her grandchildren and great grand children and was fiercely supportive of their wellbeing. One of her greatest gifts was generosity.
She is survived by sisters Dorothy Stark, Jessie Flinkman and Gertrude Kuzmiski, son Larry Youell (Cindy), daughter Karen Harrison (Glen), grandchildren David (Lisa), Kirk (Karmila), Geoffrey (Tamara), Alison (Shawn), Meaghan (Justin), and great grandchildren Danica, Caprice, Bailey, Roen, Rania, Aidan, Jillian, Kayla, Cassidy, and Nolan.
The family wishes to thank the loving and caring staff at Lynn Valley Care Centre.
A Celebration of Life will be held in August when Alice's ashes will be laid to rest beside Len's. Donations to the Salvation Army in her name would be appreciated.
