Anne passed away peacefully, on November 20 in her 97th year. Born in Belusha, Czechoslovakia, she came to Canada with her family when she was eight and settled in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan.
In her late teens she ventured to the West Coast to join her sister, Marie, and brother, John, in Vancouver. She attended business college and found work at the Province newspaper. In her early 20's while strolling Lost Lagoon with friends, she met Gordon. They were married in 1950 and had four children Sheila, Carol (Jim), Scott (Tracey), Lisa (Jonas), eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Anne loved bowling, hockey, baking and gardening. A Canucks fan through thick and thin, she rarely missed a game. An avid bowler well into her 90's, she was always tops in her league and participated in the BC Seniors Games. Her flower garden was an incredible display including hydrangeas, peonies and sunflowers amongst her favorites. Famous for her delicious baking, family and friends would often stop by for coffee and sweets. Anne's big heart was always open to family, extended family and anyone associated with her family! But more than anything Anne loved being with her grandchildren who could light up the dullest of days and put a big smile on her face...her quick wit always put a smile on ours! She was the Best in The West, Gordon would say!
Anne was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Gordon, her siblings, Marie and John, grandson, Allen and son in laws, Byron and Al. Her family would like to thank the staff of Suncrest
Retirement Community for providing exceptional care in her final years. A celebration of her life will take place in the Spring.
