It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Chrissie Kapralik, on November 27, at the age of 87. Chrissie was predeceased by her husband, Wenceslaus Kapralik in February 2008.
Chrissie was born in Coleman, Alberta. After the big flood of 1942, her parents uprooted to a farm in the Fraser Valley (Chilliwack). Mom was proud of the fact she learned how to drive on a tractor. Following graduation from Chilliwack High School in 1955, Mom left her farming roots behind and pursued nursing at St. Paul’s Hospital, graduating as a Registered Nurse on May 13th, 1959, and then working as a nurse at Vancouver General Hospital.
The year 1959 was significant for another reason, as that was the year she met the wonderful fellow who was to become her husband, May 7th, 1960. Wenceslaus was a firefighter in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and they were soon posted to Camp Borden, ON (as it was referred to back in 1961.) Mom continued working as a nurse until the birth of their first child. Our family moved back to BC in 1966, settling in Surrey, where their second child was born.
Although our mother never returned to paid nursing, throughout her life, she put her nursing skills to use, providing medical support to her elderly parents and our father, in the years when he was fighting bone cancer.
Mom was an illustrious seamstress, including sewing her own high school prom dress, all the curtains in her house in Surrey, and numerous articles of clothing for her daughters, children of her relatives and friends, and herself. Mom was also renowned for her cooking skillsets, especially her infamous mocha cream roll.
Chrissie always put her family first, creating a legacy of love and unwavering support. Our beloved mother will be dearly missed!
Chrissie is survived by her two daughters, Anita and Maxine.
A Funeral Service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey on Saturday, December 14th, at 11 AM, reception to follow. Interment service will commence at 2 PM in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby.
