Claire Delaney

Our dearest Claire passed from this world very suddenly and unexpectedly at Chilliwack General Hospital Emergency, after a very short illness.

She was predeceased by her parents, Earl (“Jack”) and Vi Cranston and her loving brother Glen Cranston. She is survived by her loving husband Kevin, of 46+ years and her cousins, Judy Hedge (Gary), Joan Lenton (Phil), Brian Herron (Trish) and John Herron (Leanne).

Claire was born in Holland, MB and lived in Cyprus River, MB until the family moved to Vancouver, BC in 1948. Her family later moved to Coquitlam, her parents owning the old “Ioco Groceteria” business in what is now Port Moody, for a number of years.

Kevin and Claire first met in 1976 and were married just 15 days later (and many thought it wouldn’t last!!). From high school graduation Claire worked until retirement, firstly for 25 years as a Customer Service Rep. for Allied Chemical and then for the BC Assessment Authority. The many lives Claire touched, some even in a just a small way, immediately recognized this selfless, kind, giving, compassionate and loving person. This is her legacy. For Kevin it was “love and second sight” and the testament to this, as so many are aware, was their continued loving bond together since that meeting and commitment after just 15 days! The loving relationship endures to this day even in the grief of such a sudden loss.

Kevin offers his most sincere gratitude to the Chilliwack Firefighters and Paramedics who worked so diligently to try and save Claire. Also ​to Dr. Kristopher Wiebe and the staff at Chilliwack General Hospital Emergency, for their gallant efforts also to save our dear Claire. Last and by no means ever least, he would like to offer his most sincere, heartfelt thanks and undying gratitude to Dr. Kelly French who became not only Claire’s geriatrician physician but a friend who steered both of them through some more recent troubling times.

A Celebration of both Claire and her brother Glen’s Life is planned for the Spring.

In Claire’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, (alzheimer.ca/bc) or another charity of your choosing, would be gratefully appreciated, rather than floral tributes.
