She was born at home on November 6th, 1926 in Kingston, Jamaica, the only child of William Esson and Olga (Henriques). She grew up at 18 Hope Road with her Ammie, Isolyn Samuel Henriques.
She attended St. Andrew's Prep and High School for Girls. At graduation she took home the Halliday Prize for Scripture, her favourite subject.
She began her working career at Pan American Airways, and held a variety of jobs before transitioning to a managerial position at Air Canada. This was a significant accomplishment at a time when few women were in the workforce.
While at work she met "the most handsome man she had ever seen", Nigel DuQuesnay, and they were married on May 10th, 1952. Together they raised their family in Jamaica before emigrating to Canada in 1980. Sadly Nigel passed away soon after, and remained the love of her life until the day she died.
Mama was predeceased by her precious granddaughter Nicola and leaves behind the remaining "jewels in her crown", her four children and their spouses; Philip (Mary), Judy (Peter), David (Hilary) and Joe (Suzanne), her nine grandchildren (Renée, Lori-Ann, Benjamin, Daniel, Rebecca, James, Andrew, Kate and Theo), and her 15 great-grands (too many to name!).
Mama was a woman of great faith, she was a prayer warrior who was passionate about her intercession for others. She was an inspiration in the way she loved, ensuring each person felt uniquely special to her. We are all so blessed to have known her and even more blessed to have been loved by her.
The family would like to thank the staff at White Rock Seniors and Suncrest Retirement
Residence for their wonderful care and compassion in her last years.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the BC Inherited Arrhythmia Clinic or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
