He was released from the immense pain and disease in his body, which kept him suffering too long. We are relieved to know he is free from the pain about which he never complained, but there are no words to express how terribly we will miss him.
We believe he has gone to be joyfully reunited with his beloved wife Elizabeth “Betty” Wells who pre-deceased him in 2005, after 56 years of being happily married.
Born 4/14/1926 in Victoria B.C. , he as a young boy was a talented concert pianist. He was raised by his Mum, brothers and sisters being the youngest of 6 children, milking cows and growing strawberries for the local grocery stores on their farm in Victoria.
He married the love of his life, Betty on 8/6/1949 in East Vancouver B.C. where they resided and raised us. In 1990 they became residents of White Rock and South Surrey B.C.
As a young man he was a logger on Van Island and then was employed at the City of Vancouver for 36 years until his retirement.
Glen, a true and talented craftsman was able to create and build anything he put his mind to. Very intelligent, he could learn, and or teach himself pretty much anything. Building a house with the plumbing and electrical, as well as beautiful finish carpentry and stonework, all came easily to him. He once built a boat from the ground up, could re- build a car body, engine, weld and was a good photographer.
Glen provided for his family by being a hard worker and was an avid fisherman and hunter for sport, as well as to feed his family.
A perfectionist in his own right, he always did his very best. A job done well was his satisfaction. He taught us so many skills that are so very valuable to this day.
There was never any doubt that he loved us. He showed it in so many ways, and by example, with his heart of gold, taught us what it meant to be fair, honest and kind to all people and animals regardless if their nature was less than desirable.
With a glass half full, positive outlook on life attitude, he always thought of others and their needs or wants before his own, never complaining of his hardships or heartbreaks.
He loved deeply, faithfully his many friends, family and animals, with a tender sensitive sweet heart. He was a larger than life, gregarious, yet quiet man always there to lend a helping hand or literally give someone the shirt off of his back if they needed it. Someone you knew you could count on to be there always, no matter what, and never betray you.
A big beaming smile and booming voice, his laugh, his wicked sense of humor and big heartfelt hugs were his trademark that all of us who were lucky enough to be in his world will remember.
Right up until the last month of his life he was still “Head” of the garden committee, (and out trimming trees) in his townhouse complex, volunteered weekly at the Red Cross (for 18+ yrs) and designed and sewed a raincoat for his little dog Casey (whom he leaves behind) with reflective flames on the sides.
Always busy with a new project he truly loved life and lived it to the fullest every day with no regrets.
We wish to thank Dr. Larry Darby, and Dr. Joshi and their staff, who cared so competently and compassionately for our Dad. Plus all the nurses at Peace Arch Hospital and Hospice.
Rest peacefully Dad.
Until we meet again, we hold you forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society and or The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation in our Dad’s name.
