It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, father, brother, brother in-law, uncle, and friend John Milos, of White Rock, BC. John passed away on Thursday, August 18 at the age of 72 years after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
John was born in Vancouver, BC on October 10, 1949, and in his youth was an avid skier and backcountry enthusiast. At 25 he met his loving wife Nancy, stole her away on a motorcycle, and they were married in 1975, inseparable ever since. As a tradesman, John obtained a journeyman’s certification in sheet metal, eventually specializing in heavy industrial design and fabrication for projects throughout western Canada, the Yukon, and Alaska. He was a fervent technology adopter, and you could always find him working on a new project with computers pushing the limits of CAD design and machine programming in the early days. His interest in computers and mathematics was contagious, influencing the careers of family members. Towards the end of his career, John worked in design, project management, and consultation. He was always excited about the next project or challenge and loved to share his interesting work with others. He was a highly respected and well-loved mentor and role-model to many who followed in his path.
Throughout his life, John was a lover of nature and the outdoors. He had a special affinity for the West Coast and the mountains of British Columbia. He loved hiking and exploring, enjoying the beach, watching the ocean, and dreamed of sailing. He was always a strong proponent of environmental conservation and protection. He had an innate connection with animals, whether his beloved dogs or the birds that visited his garden that brought him so much joy. John was always a problem-solver and was a DIY master. No problem was too big, and he was always willing to help others by patiently sharing his deep knowledge and wisdom that seemed to extend to everything, preferably over a good cup of coffee. His kindness to others throughout his life left him with many family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss his love, endless positivity, and jokes.
John is survived by his wife Nancy, two children Kevin (Crystal) and Becky, sister Marian (Ken), brother in-law Cam (Michele), sister in-law Sheila (Rob), nephews Chris (Lisa), Brian (Mel), Morgan, niece Gwen and more family and friends than can be counted. He is predeceased by his father Anton Milos and mother Mary Milos (nee Arkinstall). By request, there will be no service. The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff of Melville Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Nature Canada.
