John Wood passed away peacefully and on his own terms at Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC., active in mind and body until the end. Son of the late Rev. Sidney Wood and Vera Wood, he was predeceased by his wife Pauline, and his sister Enid Moysey. He is survived by his devoted daughter Helen, son David (Kathleen), wonderful grandchildren who gave him great joy: Alex, Pauline, Nick, and Peter, (all of Vancouver), sister-in-law Phyllis Crowe (Truro, NS), nieces and nephews across the country, and loving friend Marlene Taylor (Montreal).
John felt extremely lucky to have lived into his 100th year in good health and was appreciative of all he was given in his life. Of the many joys, he was:
* Thankful for his parents and the wonderful upbringing they gave him and his sister Enid.
* Thankful for his early years in India and England and the opportunity given the family to immigrate to Canada in 1930.
* Thankful for his formative years in Quebec’s Eastern Townships with great memories of fun activities and sports with friends.
* Thankful for his time with the RCAF and returning to Canada alive after World War II, unlike so many of his childhood friends who died in service. They were the real heroes.
* Thankful for the gift of education at McGill, Bachelor of Commerce 1950, the inspiring teachers, like Cyril James, and his classmates.
* Thankful for his family life with Pauline, Helen, and David in Dorval, Quebec and all the happy times that life in that community of friends provided.
* Thankful for his career at Canadair Ltd and later Dawson College, which offered great experiences, and where work colleagues and students remained lifelong friends.
* Thankful for the opportunity to retire to White Rock, BC offering new places to explore and new people to meet.
* Thankful for being able to telephone around the world to speak to family and friends.
* Thankful for Knowledge Network that provided ongoing education and fed his brain, particularly during Covid, with new things to learn every day.
* Thankful for all those who engaged in conversation over the years, where connections were made and opinions and thoughts exchanged.
* Thankful for friends and staff at Chartwell Crescent Gardens during the last three years.
* Thankful to God for all the joys, friendships, and simple pleasures on this wonderful earth.
