Johnny "Butch" Schlichenmayer

Born in New Westminster on April 13, 1950, to John and Mary Schlichenmayer. Butch grew up in Sapperton, where he met the love of his life, Judy Korchinski. They went on to share 52 wonderful years of marriage, building a life together filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Judy’s unwavering support was the cornerstone of Butch’s happiness, and their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.

During their early years, Butch and Judy travelled with their two children extensively, road tripping and camping across the continent. They routinely visited the family farm in Swan River, Manitoba, and travelled to more National, Provincial and State Parks than most people know exist. They provided a warm, nurturing life while instilling a spirit of adventure in their children that will persist for generations to come.

Butch was a husband, father, and grandfather of the highest order and will be dearly missed by his wife Judy, daughter Ann (her husband Mike) Charbonneau, son Michael (his wife Carly) Schlichenmayer, and his 5 grandchildren; Caleb, Nikolas, and Joshua Charbonneau; Avery and Troy Schlichenmayer.

Family was Butch’s greatest joy, and his happiest days were spent with them—travelling, camping, and making memories at their cottage on Nicola Lake. In his free time, Butch coached his children’s sports teams and led their scout packs giving generously of his time to both his family and community. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends at the lake. Butch cherished his friendships both old and new and never took any of them for granted. He will forever miss the time he spent with his friends drinking cold ones and repairing each other's treasured lake retreats.His big personality, humor and generosity touched the lives of many.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Wildlife Federation (bcwf.bc.ca) so that future generations can enjoy the outdoors as Butch did.
