René passed away peacefully in his sleep in White Rock, BC, June 23, just shy of his 90th birthday. He is predeceased by his son Steven in 1986 and his wife Patricia (née Roche) in 2014. He is survived by his sister Claudette Ethier; his son’s widow Joanne Richard; sons Peter, David and Daniel; grandchildren Alex, Tess, Ryan, Kelsey, Stevie, Stuart, Katie, and Joseph; great granddaughter Aaliyah; as well as nieces and nephews, too many to mention.
Growing up in Ottawa, René was one of eleven children born to Albert Lacroix and Victorine Pelletier. René spent 24 years with the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) branch of the Canadian Armed Forces. Married in 1951, he and Pat enjoyed numerous postings both abroad and across Canada with their young family. After he retired from the military René lived and worked in Ottawa as a technical inspector for the Canadian Department of Transport until his retirement. He and Pat moved to Embrun, Ontario in 1989, where they lived together until Pat’s death in 2014. René moved to White Rock, BC in 2017 to enjoy the milder BC climate and be close to family. He enjoyed many visits and outings with family and friends during his all-too-brief stay in White Rock. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
