As a family we are deeply saddened to say that Joseph Edmund Sousa Pereira, aged 70 years, died unexpectedly at Surrey Memorial Hospital on December 8, 2025. He was born on September 7, 1955 in Ponta Delgada, Flores, Azores, to Jose Freitas Pereira and Maria Pereira nee Sousa. Joe grew up and lived all his life in North Delta and Surrey.
Joe was an avid fisherman, never happier than when he was sitting by the river with a rod in the water.
Joe is lovingly remembered as a gentleman who displayed courage in facing many health challenges, humour, caring, generosity, compassion and attentive interest in others.
Joe is survived by his wife, Fay, sisters Florence, Fatima(Tony), Maria Helena(Heath) and brothers Serino (Clare) and Larry (Rhonda), nieces Roseanne (Taylor), Em, Audrey, Miranda, Allyson and Sarah, great-niece Collins and nephews Anthony, Desmond and Nick, as well as beloved aunts and uncle. Joe is predeceased by his parents and uncles.
A celebration of life will be held on January 10. Please contact family or friends for details. In lieu of flowers donations in Joe’s memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation or charities raising money for medical research.
