Juana Isabel Morrow

Juana Isabel Morrow passed away on March 16, 2026 at Surrey Memorial Hospital. With strength and resilience, she fought a decade long battle with cancer and significant heart challenges, and passed away following complications from an unexpected illness.

Isabel was born on April 25, 1949 in La Union, Zacapa on Guatemala’s southern border with Honduras. The youngest daughter of Juan de Dios Cordon and Maria Elodia Trejo de Cordon, she was known to family as Chiqui, short for Chiquita or “little one.” Her early life was spent on the family farm where they raised livestock and grew coffee. She later went to school in Chiquimula where she had fond memories of her adolescence. In her final years living in Latin America she taught Spanish in the idyllic town of Antigua, Guatemala where she met Dwight and was eventually married.

Isabel moved to Canada in 1978 and her early years were spent in Chase, British Columbia. It was here she gave birth to her first son Steven in 1983. The family later moved to Ocean Park, British Columbia and Isabel and Dwight had their second child Christopher in 1987. The area would remain her home for nearly 3 decades. After a brief period in the Fraser Valley she spent her final years at Chartwell Imperial Residence in Surrey, British Columbia where she forged strong friendships and received diligent care.

Isabel was above all else, a dedicated mother and fierce supporter of her children. They remember her kindness and compassion vividly and her smile that could light up a room. She was a phenomenal cook and often assaulted those around her with endless waves of homecooking. Isabel loved with a whole heart and was an avid animal enthusiast with a particular interest in birds. Dwight and Isabel remained friends throughout her life and could often find time for a cheeky phone call thick with humour and gossip. Most importantly if you were lucky enough to meet her you felt fortunate for having spent time in her orbit.

Isabel passed unexpectedly and while those around her felt robbed of her time, she spent her life creating positivity. She will be remembered enthusiastically and will be deeply missed.

Isabel nació el 25 de abril de 1949 en La Unión, Zacapa, en la frontera sur de Guatemala con Honduras. Hija menor de Juan de Dios Cordón y María Elodia Trejo de Cordón, era conocida en su familia como Chiqui, diminutivo de Chiquita. Pasó su infancia en la finca familiar, donde criaban ganado y cultivaban café. Posteriormente, estudió en Chiquimula, donde guardaba gratos recuerdos de su adolescencia. En sus últimos años en Latinoamérica, enseñó español en la idílica ciudad de Antigua, Guatemala, donde conoció a Dwight y con quien finalmente se casó.

Isabel se mudó a Canadá en 1978 y pasó sus primeros años en Chase, Columbia Británica. Fue aquí donde dio a luz a su primer hijo, Steven, en 1983. Posteriormente, la familia se mudó a Ocean Park, Columbia Británica, donde Isabel y Dwight tuvieron a su segundo hijo, Christopher, en 1987. Esta zona sería su hogar durante casi tres décadas. Tras una breve estancia en el valle del Fraser, pasó sus últimos años en la Residencia Chartwell Imperial en Surrey, Columbia Británica, donde forjó grandes amistades y recibió una atención esmerada.

Ante todo, Isabel fue una madre dedicada y una defensora incondicional de sus hijos. Ellos recuerdan vívidamente su bondad y compasión, así como su sonrisa que iluminaba cualquier lugar. Era una cocinera excepcional y a menudo deleitaba a quienes la rodeaban con sus interminables platos caseros. Isabel amaba con todo su corazón y era una gran amante de los animales, con especial interés en las aves. Dwight e Isabel mantuvieron su amistad durante toda su vida y a menudo encontraban tiempo para una charla informal llena de humor y cotilleos. Lo más importante es que, si tenías la suerte de conocerla, te sentías afortunado de haber compartido tiempo con ella.

Isabel falleció inesperadamente y, aunque quienes la rodeaban sintieron su pérdida, ella dedicó su vida a generar positividad. Será recordada con cariño y su ausencia se sentirá profundamente.
