RICHERT; Karl Herman, known to his friends as Karl with a ‘K’, passed away peacefully on Aug 13, 2020, at Delta View Care Centre at the age of 85. Born and raised in Dunnville, ON to Herman and Dorothy Richert. Karl graduated from Dunnville High School, then joined the RCMP in 1955. “Ricketts”, as he was known to his RCMP colleagues, enjoyed a 35yr career with the Mounties, including postings in ON, NT and eventually BC, where he spent the majority of his years. One of his early transfers was to Fort Providence, NT, during which time he had a dogsled team to assist with his duties. Karl thoroughly enjoyed the comradery with his peers-many of those he supervised affectionately knew him as “Papa Smurf”. Karl earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and worked in Vancouver drug section until his retirement in 1991. Wanting to keep busy, Karl subsequently worked part-time for the TD Bank servicing Green machines, ADESA car auction company, and finally Seaquam Senior Secondary School, monitoring lunchtime activities. When he wasn’t working, Karl enjoyed spending time and travelling with his wife and best friend of 45 years, Terry Anne (Fraser), who predeceased him in 2019.
Karl is survived by his sons Glen and Grant Thompson of NS, his brother Rhys Richert of ON , and nieces Lynette, Diane, Cheryl and Sandra of BC. He will be missed fondly by many good friends and former colleagues. Karl’s other love in life was his dogs Biscuit and Sophie. Les and Gill Allen would like to thank the incredible staff at Delta View for their exceptional care of Karl over the past year and a half. There will be no service at this time. Interment will be at a later date at the RCMP Cemetery in Regina,SK.
