Lana Marie Hulgaard

Lana was born in Lockwood Saskatchewan on February 17th, 1932 to Clara and Harry Pomfret, pioneers who had wed on Christmas Day in 1918. The sixth of seven children, life was not easy in the Saskatchewan prairie during the depression but the family was strong and resilient. My mother’s fondest memories come from that farm long ago where her Mothers soup simmered on the stove and farm animals brought much delight.

In 1949 Mother joined her three sisters rooming together near 12th and Oak Street in Vancouver. Stories of the four beauties, their adventures and successes of that time always inspired me. Eventually all married including my Mother who joined my Dad in a Cinderella wedding on 1956 in Burnaby BC. My Dad, who considered Mum his dream girl, was an RCMP member since 1952.

My Father William Joseph Hulgaard was famous in my eyes. Shortly after joining the force my Father, a farm boy himself, participated in the 1953 RCMP Musical Ride along with escorting dignitaries, royalty and three US presidents. Over the years my Father was transferred numerous times, Mum took it in her stride always looking on the bright side with a focus on the little things. I was born in 1959 in New Westminster and was my parents only child. I enjoyed a perfect childhood, the three of us inseparable, my father’s humour lifted us above all, Mum, fortunately, supplied the practicality.

My first child Crystal Marie Glahn was born in 1982 in Richmond BC. Son Tyler Ray William Glahn (Kate) soon followed in 1984 in Langley BC. Grandchildren were the apples of Nana & Bubbas eyes. Great Grandchildren include Landon & Benjamin and Everett & Avery.

Sadly both parents suffered lengthy illnesses before passing. My husband Wayne Barney was by my side through it all and enriched my parents lives as they did ours in family harmony.

Mother went home at 12.43 am. August 30th, 2024 at Evergreen Care Society in White Rock BC ..I was both honoured and blessed to be with her when her hand was taken.
