Loi was born July 23, 1943 in Buffalo, NY to Eleanor and Ernest Perrin. She grew up third of five brothers and sisters. An artist at heart, she was skilled at painting, drawing, and sewing. Her children had a number of costumes and garments that were handmade by her over the years. She always had a cheerful spirit and could be heard singing as she went about her tasks. She also loved a good New York Times crossword puzzle and could usually finish it on Sunday Morning. She was generous, thoughtful, and kind, even while quietly dominating every game of Scrabble. Whether through mindfulness or severe organizational efforts, or both, she never forgot a birthday, and was always a cheerful voice to hear. She was not only a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, but a positive maternal figure to all of our friends and partners who needed it.
Loi is survived by her husband, Dick of 59 years. They were married August 21, 1965 in New York following Dick’s short leave from United States Navy SEAL training. In the early years of their marriage, while with some of the other Navy wives, she traveled to meet his Navy ship as it came to port in various countries. Together they created close-knit family that enjoyed their own traditions and made many memories along the way.
She is also survived by her children, Tara Scott, Karen Ostheller (Kelly), and Mike Draper (Laura), siblings Donna Reichelderfer (George d. 2021), Dan Perrin (Melinda), Leslie Stender, and sister-in-law Gail Perrin. In addition, 7 Grandchildren, 2 Great-grandchildren, and 1 Great-great grandchild, and many, many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brother David Perrin.
Loi will always be known for her kindness, love, and support of her family, as well as to her and Dick’s many friends. She will be greatly missed. In her words, “l’ll love you forever.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Center on November 16, 2024.
