In Loving Memory

Margaret Drummond, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, after a sudden, brief illness. Born Margaret Anne McCormack, on May 22, 1939, in Nakusp, B.C., Marg, as she was known to all, grew up on the McCormack farm in Burton, B.C., surrounded by a loving family.

This sense of family stayed with her all her life and she loved nothing better than to get together with bunches of family and friends and just enjoy their company. Food, card games, conversation and laughter marked all these frequent gatherings. Her home was open to family and friends at all times.

In addition to raising her family, Marg worked for many years at White Rock Utilities, reading the water meters for the entire city. She enjoyed this work, being outdoors and walking miles each day and meeting many people in the community.

Marg was a great mom and grandma, and her ability to understand children and see the world through their eyes could only be described as a gift. Her selfless, kind and patient ways have been a blessing and an inspiration.

Anyone who knew Marg can easily picture her in her chair with her ever-present cup of coffee, a stack of books nearby, always ready to hear your news.

Marg loved gardening and her green thumb was remarkable. If you had a sick plant, all you needed to do was leave it with her and you would get it back healthy and happy.

Marg was an avid Blue Jays fan, and a keen softball player in her youth and adulthood. She displayed the strength of a farm girl most of her life. Not many children can talk about moving furniture with their mother.

Marg was predeceased by her beloved parents, father John and mother Helen (Nell) McCormack, and beloved siblings Michael, Joan and Lynne. She is survived by her husband, Gord, and her children Laureen (Brian) Kohlen, and James (Joanne) Drummond, and by her grandchildren, Justine (partner Myles) and Jason Drummond, and Graeme and Andrew (fiancée Selena) Kohlen. She is also survived by her siblings, Norma, Jim, Ron and Doreen, and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. To some of them, she was like a second mom.

According to her wishes, Margaret’s ashes will be interred in Burton, B.C. in the same plot as her brother, Michael, her mother, Nell, and her sister, Lynne.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Thank you Marg, thank you Mom, thank you Grandma, thank you Aunty Marg, for your love, your kindness and your ever-ready listening ear. We will miss you so.

“In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore…”
