Marie Frances Harper

It is with a heavy and saddened heart that we announce the passing of Marie Frances Harper (Torrington), on Friday, May 10th, 2024, after her long battle with cancer. Born September 26th, 1937, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Marie was 86 years old.

Beloved wife, of Larry Harper (deceased), daughter of David and Elsie Torrington (deceased), and sister of Nancy Torrington (deceased). Marie was also mother to Bill (Diana), Penny (Bruce) and grandmother to Bill’s children, Alysha (Daniel), Samantha and Rebecca. Marie was thrilled when she became a great grandmother to Alysha’s children, Alaena, Jackson, and Sophia.

Marie is survived by her nieces (Torrington) Alene and Nadine, and her nieces and nephews (Harper) Jen (Andy), Jamie (Elaine), Thomas (Rachel), and her sisters-in-law (Harper) Carol and Wilma.

Marie married her beloved husband, Larry in 1965, in Vancouver, BC and they celebrated just shy of 48 amazing years together, traveling and exploring the world while raising a family. Marie’s extensive travel took her to Europe, Hong Kong, the Philippines, USA and the South Pacific.

Marie called many places home over the years including Bermuda and Australia, but ultimately ended up back in Canada, living in Burnaby, and North Vancouver before settling in Langley.

Marie enjoyed many hobbies and pass times including monthly lunches with friends, reading, computer solitaire, old movies, gardening, watching the birds outside, and playing bingo at Chartwell. If you were fortunate enough, you may have received emails or jokes from Marie, brightening your day with her thoughtfulness.

Marie shared her good fortune with others, often donating to a variety of charities, spreading kindness wherever she could. She will be missed by many.

Celebration of Life will be held at Newlands Golf Club at 21025 48 Avenue, Langley, BC, on Sunday June 9, 2024, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
