Although Marjorie passed away very quietly, her life was full of passion, engagement and movement.
She was born in New Zealand, the second of four children (Aileen, Marg, Bob and Enid). After WWII, like many other young Kiwis, she went to England for a visit. And then she met and married Peter Tannen (1923 – 2011). With a new medical degree and a toddler, they moved to Canada in 1955. They landed in Gimli, Manitoba (Peter was a war vet and the Canadian Air Force needed doctors).
The family moved to and around BC before settling in Surrey in 1968. Mom returned to school and became a Career Advisor at DelView Jr. Secondary. She loved working with people of all ages and helped with Brownies and Girl Guides. She helped start Hazelmere Pony Club. For many years she was a volunteer docent at the Surrey Art Gallery.
Mom loved to move, whether it was swimming, sailing, skiing or horseback riding. She was also handy with a hammer and saw – helping to put up fences or barns.
She was still trying to peg two points on a ‘go’ playing Crib just a few weeks ago, always with a smile.
Marjorie or Mom or Nana will be remembered by Lesley, Nicholas (Dianna, Christina, Liliana & Oliver)), Jeffrey, Dallas (Christopher), Jason, friends and neighbours.
Special thanks to the staff at Morgan Place. You helped make the last two years as healthy and happy as they could be for Marjorie.
Please consider a donation to a charity or community service, and remember to hug the ones you love.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.victoryfuneralcentre.ca for the Tannen family.
