Mavis is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Frank. They were married twice, the first time on March 31st, 1988 in the chapel at Lion’s Gate Hospital as Mavis fell ill shortly before her wedding date and again at The Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver on May 5th, 1988.
Mavis is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lani (James) and Louise (Vince), her sons Andrew (Jacki) and Michael (Jennifer), and her grandchildren Rowan, Siobhan, Adam, Aaron and Ella.
Mavis was born in Manchester, England on August 19th, 1934 and immigrated to Canada after she married her husband Roland, who passed away in 1984. She worked for many years at Woodward’s Department Store where, after Roland passed away, she met Frank.
Mavis was very creative and enjoyed sewing her children’s clothing when they were young and making detailed Polynesian costumes for her daughter Louise’s dancing. She knit beautiful sweaters for her grandchildren and embroidered exquisite needlework. She loved ballroom dancing and she and Frank spent many years waltzing around Arthur Murray Dance Studios. She was an excellent cook and baker, famous for her shortbread every Christmas. If you were blessed enough to be on her coveted list, she would deliver a personal batch every year, a tradition she has requested to be carried on by her daughter Lani.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The BC Cancer Society (http://bccancerfoundation.com/ways-donate/gift-memory).
As per Mavis' request the Celebration of Life Service will be private.
