Norman Attridge (72), of South Surrey, passed away suddenly at home on May 15, 2024. Born September 29, 1951 in Toronto, Norm was known for his kind heart, unwavering loyalty, and compassionate nature.
Norm will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce Attridge (Buchanan), his beloved daughter, Kayla Attridge, and his cherished granddaughter, Cassidy Arseneau. He is also survived by his brother, Greg (Sharon), his sister-in-law, Patty, wife of his late brother Mike (1952-2022), and his stepmother, Colleen, wife of his late father George (1928-2017). Norm was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Attridge (1948-2015).
As a young boy, Norm had a deep love for hockey, music, friends, and family. He spent cherished time at his cottage in Halls Lake, where he met his late wife, Pat. The two wed and spent many wonderful years building a beautiful life together. In their early years, Norm, Pat, and their daughter Kayla enjoyed road trips across Canada and the United States, creating countless special memories as a family. From their time at the cottage to family band practices and bonfires, and their visits back to Ontario, these moments will be forever cherished.
Norm was everything you could imagine a father could be to Kayla and an exceptional grandfather to Cassidy. His protective and loving nature was evident in airplane rides, piggyback rides, and affectionate hugs. He was a constant supporter, cheering Kayla on at dance recitals, competitions, and graduations, and guiding her through life's difficult decisions and challenges. Norm and Kayla cherished their time together at Woody’s restaurant in Florida and on the patios of White Rock beach’s restaurants, basking in the sun, reminiscing, and discussing life while enjoying the beautiful scenery.
Norm’s devotion extended to Cassidy, cheering her on at dance recitals, drama plays, rugby games, and graduations. He created lasting memories with her, from showing her the magic of Disneyland to baking together and teaching her guitar. His love and pride for his granddaughter were widely known and deeply felt. Norm holds a special place in the hearts of both Kayla and Cassidy, and his presence will be profoundly missed.
After the loss of his late wife, Pat, Norm re-found love and partnership with his wife, Joyce Attridge (Buchanan) who he leaves behind. The two were married quietly in their beautiful backyard in 2023 after spending eight wonderful years together. They were enjoying their retirement; traveling, working in the garden, building their backyard oasis, and spending time with family and friends (new and old). The time they spent together will never be enough, but the happiness they brought each other was worth a lifetime.
Norm had a distinguished career in commercial banking, beginning with RBC and spending the majority of his career at TD. He steadily rose through the ranks to become the Director of Small Business Banking for the Pacific Region, following a family move from Toronto to the west coast in 1999. In 2010, Norm joined Envision Financial, where he completed his career as Assistant Vice President, Business Banking in 2017. His professionalism and dedication left a lasting impact on both colleagues and clients throughout his 35+ years in the industry.
Norm's dedication to his community ran deep. In his early days, he not only served on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement British Columbia and the National Board of Junior Achievement of Canada but also took the time to educate young people on financial literacy in B.C. Over the years, his passion for giving back has continued, as evidenced by his involvement in the board with SOURCES from March 2018 to September 2021, where he made substantial contributions to further the organization's goals and initiatives. His involvement in the community was a testament to his generous spirit and desire to help others.
Beyond his professional achievements, Norm was a man of many interests. He had a passion for traveling and a love for music, often playing his guitar to the delight of family. In retirement, Norm and Joyce were always jetsetting to a new destination and exploring extensively together. Together they enjoyed golfing and had most recently joined a lawn bowling club. His joyful and charismatic spirit was matched by his impeccable sense of style. He was always a sharp dresser who could brighten any room with his presence. Norm has made a lasting impression on those in his life. His presence will be extremely missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Norm’s life and achievements will be held for friends and family at Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club on June 14th at 4:00 pm. Doors will open at 3:30 pm. In honor of Norm, we kindly request that you dress in your most vibrant and stylish business-casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to SOURCES in Norm’s honour. Donations can be made at: https://sourcesfoundation.ca/give/.
Norm will be remembered as a true gentleman, a kind and loyal friend, and a loving family man. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
