Norman (Norm) F. Stewart (81) of Surrey, BC, passed away on May 13, 2023, after a brief illness and surrounded by family and friends.
Norm enjoyed a long (almost 50 years) and distinguished career in the oil and gas industry in Calgary and Vancouver. For most of his career he worked in the spare parts aftermarket with Canadian Ingersoll Rand, Dresser Rand and Nuovo Parts. He also spent a number of years in the Purchasing Department of Westcoast Energy. Norm will always be remembered as a true professional and as someone who was a pleasure to work with.
Norm was known to his friends as the Grey Goose or the Silver Fox, due to his hair turning a silver white at a young age. He was an accomplished athlete participating in baseball, hockey and skiing in his youth in Kimberley and later curling and golfing. He also loved fishing with his buddies and especially around Pender Harbour. He was an avid gardener, first in Calgary where he built an award winning rock garden and then transitioned to fabulous coastal horticulture while living in Vancouver.
Friends often speak of him as a great friend, some for over 70 years. Anyone that met Norm found a warm, caring, and generous person that never had a bad word to say about anyone. Most people would say that Norm was one of the nicest people that they ever met.
Norm is survived by his loving partner of several decades, Barb Renwick, daughter - Jane Stewart (Calgary) and step-son Sean MacDonald (Ladner).
Please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Celebrations of Life will be held in his hometown of Kimberley, BC the weekend of August 18, 2023. We will also host Celebrations of Life in Surrey and Calgary at dates to be determined.
