With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patrick "Paddy" Daniel McConville, who left us suddenly on February 5th, 2025, at the age of 71. Born in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland, on June 22, 1953, Paddy immigrated to Canada in 1957 and was raised in East Vancouver. Though he spent most of his life in Canada, he remained proud of his Irish heritage.
Growing up in East Van, Playland and the PNE were a big part of his world, and he worked there for many years as a young man. The sights and sounds of those days stayed with him, and he always loved returning to relive those memories with friends and family.
A true sports fan, Paddy rarely missed watching a game and was deeply involved with the White Rock South Surrey Baseball Association. As a longtime coach and a familiar face at the concession stands, he dedicated countless hours to supporting young athletes and fostering a love of the game.
Paddy was a stay-at-home dad who cherished time with his children and extended family. His presence was always welcoming, and he had a way of making people feel known. Whether at the ballpark, the beach, or over a game of crib or snooker, he left a lasting impact.
He found a strong sense of community at White Rock Beach, where he spent countless hours enjoying the ocean air and good company. He especially loved the Ocean Beach and West Beach Bar, where he was a familiar face to many. Despite facing numerous health challenges, he remained resilient and optimistic, embracing life to the fullest.
Paddy is survived by his children Christine (Dan), Chris, and Trevor (Amanda), his former wife Judy, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six siblings, and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary, and his brother Raymond.
May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Memorial to be held at Victory Memorial Park on March 1st at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the BC Cancer Foundation.
