Our much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, “Mutti” Pauline passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on June 29, in her 99th year. Pauline was born on December 16, 1922 to Albert and Winnifred Brocks in Ascot, England.
In 1938 she met the love of her life, Paul. They married in 1946 when Paul returned from the Far East where he had been serving with the Royal Navy.
Pauline and Paul emigrated to Canada in 1947, living first in Montreal and then Halifax and HMCS Sherwater when Paul joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Further postings took them to England and Winnipeg.
After Paul’s retirement in 1975, they embarked on a year-long trip around the world before returning to England for 10 years.
In 1986 they returned to Canada, making their home base in White Rock to be closer to family. Travelling remained a great love especially when it could be combined with volunteer projects in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. In many later years they enjoyed many cruises.
Paul’s death in 2015 left a huge hole in Mum’s life but she remained active and busy, keeping up with an ever-growing family. Mum loved to entertain and try new recipes with family and friends as willing taste-testers.
Pauline is survived by her children: Penny (Bert) Coates, Sheelagh (George) Stone, and Adrian (Jackie) Martin; six grandsons: Paul (Sarah), Liam (Janelle), Joel (Nicole), Brian (Alison), Dorian (Laura) and Simon (Chantal); and 17 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her nephew Tony, niece Janet, goddaughter Jennifer and her dear friend of over 68 years Helen and her family in Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held at White Rock Baptist Church 1657 140 Street on Sunday, August 15 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline’s name to Canadian Baptist Ministries, www.cbmin.org, would be appreciated.
