Peter passed away peacefully at the George Derby retirement home after a long battle with dementia. Peter hailed from Chatham Kent, England. He joined the British Army at 17 and served in the Korean War. Peter came back from the war and married Patricia December 27th 1954. He had a successful 25 year career ending his service as a Warrant officer First class in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME). His career took him all over the world including Cyprus, Germany, Ireland, Norway and Aden (now Yemen). Peter retired from the army and worked as a civil engineer in England until packing the family up and moving to Canada in 1975. In Canada he worked for ESCO Engineering and M&A machining. In retirement he joined the Abbotsford legion and served as their President for many years. He enjoyed leading the remembrance parade with his sergeant major voice. His passion was anything mechanical (dad could fix anything) and making beer and wine.
Peter was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Welford (nee Chapling) May 3rd 2014. Left to treasure his memory are his 4 children Gary (Lori) Mark (Pat) Shelley (Rick) Patrick (Deanna). His 10 grandchildren Adam (Melissa) Lauren, Kent (Claudia), Miles (Sarah), Danielle, (Dan), Hailey (Mark), Kelsey (Brody), Megan (Pete), Emily, and Kimberly, and 9 Great Grandchildren.
In the U.K. Peter also leaves his older sister Peggy and niece Geri (David).
A celebration of Peters' life will be held at a future date.
