

Dick ( as he was known) was born on July 21st 1932 in Vangaurd Saskatchewan. He was the second son of Carl & Gwendolyn Henderson. The family moved to Vancouver when Dick was a youngster. He grew up in the Vancouver area. Dick was a very active and faithful member of the United Church of Canada. It was actually at a Church event in 1961 that he met his future wife Anne (Horrobin). After a short engagement they were married in March of 1962. They remained married until Anne’s passing in 2006. 1965 saw them move from Vancouver to Prince George where they resided until his retirement in 1996. He had been a Letter Carrier for Canada Post for 30+ years. They then moved to Nanaimo to enjoy retirement. Dick really enjoyed playing cards. His favorite was crib. Whether it be a quick lunch time game with a co-worker, a Sunday afternoon game at the Legion or representing the Nanaimo Zone numerous times at BC Senior games he would always be up for the challenge. Later in his life saw him experience more travelling with his girlfriend Maxine. Dick was a huge sports fan whether it was watching baseball, football or hockey on television or going to see a game live he always had comments to make on what he had seen. He especially enjoyed travelling to watch Maxine’s grandsons Morgan and Trevor play their baseball games. In 2014 he moved to Surrey, BC. Over the past couple of years his health and mobility started to quickly decline yet he would always stay positive trying to make people laugh with his sense of humor.
Dick is survived by his daughter Janet (Randi Overall) Surrey, Step Daughter Donna (Dave) Lofstrom of West Kelowna, Brother Norman Henderson of Sechelt , Sister in Law Pat Taylor, Cousin Doreen Scantland, Nieces Becky (Vince) Henderson Lesley (Alan) Gray, Daphne (David) Bowra, and Sharon Kelly Nephews John (Leslie) Henderson Bill(Debbie) Henderson and Paul Taylor. He will be missed by his extended family and the many friends he made over his years. A celebration of life will be held at Northwood United Church in Surrey BC on October 2nd at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
