

Born of modest beginnings on September 13, 1941, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan the firstborn to Amanda and Henri of the tiny farming settlement of Laventure. Roland only spoke French until he started attending elementary school in Leoville, Saskatchewan. Amanda and Henri moved their family to Maillardville, British Columbia when Roland was in his early teens to be able to earn more money to raise their family. Roland met his future wife, Ruth, and they were married on September 3, 1960. Three children followed: Sylvia, Sandy, and Rick. In 1976 Roland moved his family to Prince George in Northern British Columbia to pursue a business opportunity. Roland eventually tired of cold winters and Ruth and Roland moved back to the Lower Mainland about ten years later. Soon thereafter, Roland commenced a career as a Federal Prison Guard where he eventually retired. Roland loved to be outdoors in his yard and garden as well as take walks and naps with his Jack Russell Terriers. Roland battled dementia, pneumonia and other ailments right until the end on September 15, 2024.
Roland is survived by daughter Sylvia Antifaeff, son Rick, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. Roland was predeceased by his daughter Sandy Mathews, wife Ruth, and sister Sylvia.
The funeral mass will be Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:30am at the Star of the Sea Parish, 2250 – 150th Street, Surrey, BC with the burial to follow after the funeral mass at the Victory Memorial Park & Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, BC.
