In Loving Memory . . . . . It is with great sadness that the FRANCIS Family announce the peaceful passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather [Oupa], brother, uncle, and pillar of his community - Roy W. Francis. Roy passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024.
Born May 31, 1946 in Capetown, South Africa. Roy was the second youngest son of Sidney H. Francis & Lillian M. Francis. He spent his youth and early adulthood in Capetown, South Africa where he met the love of his life - Josie in Lansdowne, Capetown; they married in 1969 and had 2 children. On July 10, 1979, they immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, for he was seeking a life of equal opportunities, and a wonderful place to raise his family. Roy leaves behind a devoted wife of 54 years, Josephine Francis, their children Tracy Weeks, & Lee Francis, their son-in-law Michael Weeks, and daughter-in-law Karolina Francis, and his cherished grandchildren - Evan, Alicia, Eli, & Dominik.
Roy loved his sports. He played soccer as a youth, participated in high school track and field, played in a men's soccer league until the age of 41; coached his son's soccer team for many years at Surrey United Soccer club, inspiring many young athletes. He enjoyed sharing stories about his favorite premier league teams - especially his favourite Manchester United. Hewas well versed in FIFA World cup matches, hockey playoffs, baseball playoffs, PGA wins, Springbok Rugby matches, and Formula One Racing!
Roy's professional journey led him to Mercedes Benz Vancouver where he worked for nearly 40 years, as Master technician then Shop Foreman, where he built a reputation of excellence & integrity. More recently, he was a diligent servant of his church community; he served as church Warden of St. Helen's Anglican Church. Upon retiring, he embraced the joys of golf, travel, RV'ing, touring, and cruising to new global destinations.
Roy's legacy of love, dedication, and his friendly, humble nature will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to cross paths with our amazing father, loving husband, and wonderful Oupa. Rest in Peace Roy W. Francis, your sporting spirit will continue to inspire us all. Forever in our hearts . . . . . until we see you again.
A funeral will be held at St. Helen's Anglican Church, 10787 - 128th Street, Surrey, BC on Thursday, May 16th @ 1pm. You will find details here and on St. Helen Anglican Church Surrey Facebook page.
