April 11,1925 - February 7, 2016
Longtime Roberts Creek resident Roy Scarr peacefully left us in the early hours of the morning on
February 7th with his family surrounding him. Predeceased by his wife Pat, he is survived by his
children Kate(Paddy), Dan(Chris), Brian(Stacy), his grandchildren Ariel(Steve), Matt(Keya),
Timothy, Thomas and his great granddaughter Rosie. Almost on cue, as he gave his last breath, a
distant train blew its whistle and it felt like he was sweetly calling goodbye.
Roy was a gentle and humorous man, born and raised in Kerrisdale, Vancouver where he excelled
at sports, particularly basketball, and where the Fraser River flatlands and coastal waters were he
and his brother Bob's adventure playground. A vet of the Canadian army and lifelong employee of
the BC Telephone Company, he married Patricia Ewart in 1951, spending 63 years together raising
their three children. Retiring in 1983, they moved to Roberts Creek, BC to their beautiful
waterfront family home and spent over 30 years fishing, gardening, golfing, traveling and enjoying
time with their extended family and friends who came to visit.
After Pat’s death two years ago his family felt grateful for the extra time they had with their father;
enjoying trips to Hawaii, the Okanagan and an epic last fishing trip with son Brian and grandson
Timothy. Over his lifetime, Roy volunteered for the Kerrisdale Community Center, many community
groups on the Sunshine Coast and The Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club.
A celebration of life will be held April 23, 2016 at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club between
1-4 pm at 3206 Sunshine Coast Hwy Gibsons BC. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in
Roy’s name to the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society http://scsalmon.org/aboutscses.
