Our beloved mother and grandmother, Ruth Cheng, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024. Born on September 13, 1944, in Macau, Ruth spent 80 years living a life full of love, joy, kindness, and faithfulness.
Ruth was the heart of our home and family. She raised four children, Grace, Christine, Samuel and Sharon, in a happy and loving home, nurturing them to become independent and thoughtful adults. Ruth was married for 55 years to James, who passed away in 2023. She was a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren.
Ruth graduated with a bachelor's degree in English literature in Hong Kong, a remarkable achievement for a non-English-speaking woman in the 1960s. She began her career as a teacher at Ying Wah Girls School. After pausing her teaching career to raise a young family, she transitioned back into the workforce as a high-performing executive assistant in the business world. She continued her career after immigrating to Canada, eventually retiring from a senior administrative role at Environment Canada.
As a woman of deep faith, Ruth was actively involved with the Chinese Christian Mission in the 1960-70s, and later with the Overseas Theological Seminary in the 1970-80s. From the late 1980s, Ruth was a dedicated member of Vancouver Lord's Grace Church, where she devoted her time to serving the Lord through the deacon's board, various ministries, fellowships, and the choir.
Ruth often expressed gratitude for God’s blessings in her life and the lives of her family. She has now joined the Lord in Heaven. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
