It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Sharon, a loving, thoughtful, funny, kind and always upbeat daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Sharon’s strong spirit was a shining star that will burn forever bright in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is survived by her mother Virginia, younger brother Glenn & his wife Jackie, nephew Charlie, niece Lauren, all whom still live in Toronto and her younger sister Carrie who lives in Calgary, AB.
Sharon who was affectionately known as “Nan” to her family; as the oldest sibling was responsible for teaching her younger brother and sister many of life’s little lessons and wisdoms. She cared for us, taught us, and watched out for us all our lives. Nan helped us become the people we are today, for which we will always be grateful. The endless love, support, and big sister stuff she gave will remain with us forever. We miss you but will not forget all you were to us. We love you Nan.
Sharon was born in Hamilton, Ontario but grew up in Toronto, Ontario. She attended Havergal College from Grade 9-13, then graduated with Honours from UofT with a BSc in Computer Science and Data Management and a minor in Economics. Her successful career before retiring was with many companies in the IT world. In August 2006 she moved out to Ocean Park, B.C.
The incredible strength she displayed during her hard fought 8 1/2 year incurable ovarian cancer journey, was nothing but inspirational & beyond courageous. Her very positive attitude and strong hope to keep the cancer at bay, kept her fighting until her passing. Her whole life and even during her battle with cancer, she was always very engaged and interested in what family and friends were doing and wanted to help out whenever she could with her elderly mother, siblings, niece or nephew.
Over her lifetime, Sharon had 5 dogs that she loved, adored and cherished. Sharon was dog crazy and whenever out she would always stop to give love and pats to someone’s dog and ask about them. For many years she was a permanent fixture at the Dogwood Park. Sharon loved to garden and got great satisfaction watching her different plants, vegetables or herbs grow. Sharon’s happy place was being in water, be it swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, body surfing or water skiing at our childhood cottage on Lake Muskoka. She loved to read and would stay up to all hours to finish a good murder mystery book. She also got great pleasure baking up a storm to give her baked delights to friends. Her whole life she loved to travel and experience beautiful new places and of course absolutely loved taking lots of pictures.
In Toronto, Sharon was active playing tennis, badminton or swimming, then before the cancer slowed her down, she loved to go for walks, play golf and yes even got into that crazy pickleball sport, all with a great group of ladies. Sharon had a wonderful group of friends & neighbours in Toronto and B.C. who added joy, laughter and fulfillment to her life. She would always be up for a fun night involving any board game, cards or cribbage. For years she was an avid curler on both women’s and mixed teams. She curled for 20 years in Toronto at the Granite Club then kept that passion for the sport going when she moved to B.C. She qualified twice for the B.C. Senior Provincials and also won a Gold & Silver when going twice to the B.C. 55+ Senior Games.
We want to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, Specialists, Counsellors & Social Workers, that Sharon encountered over her long health journey. Your compassion, patience and care were greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Sharon to honour her on Monday June 23rd, 2025 from 1pm to 4pm, in the Tea Room at Victory Memorial Park & Funeral Centre.
If you wish to make a donation in Sharon’s memory, the following were close to her heart: Ovarian Cancer Canada, Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society, Toronto Humane Society or BC SPCA.
