We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sharon Alice Thompson, who passed away on February 11, 2025, at Peace Arch Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.
Born on February 26, 1949, in Vancouver, BC, to Gladys and Cecil Thompson, Sharon led a remarkable life filled with adventure, resilience, and dedication. Her career spanned over 55 years, including two decades in Whitehorse, Yukon - a place she deeply loved. During her time there, she spent 14 years in the aviation industry (Trans North Air and Alkan Air) and six years with the geological consulting firm, Archer Cathro. It was in the Yukon that she also earned her Private Pilot’s License in 1976, a testament to her adventurous spirit. After moving back to Vancouver permanently in the early 90’s, Sharon had a long and fulfilling career at Transport Canada that spanned over 30 years.
Known for her fierce independence, strength, and unwavering resolve, Sharon was a force to be reckoned with. She wore her heart on her sleeve and always put the needs of others before herself. Her passion for animals, adventure, and the outdoors was also a defining part of her life.
Sharon did not lose to cancer- she triumphed over it by how she chose to live and work her final months. Though her presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and colleagues, her legacy of compassion, tenacity, and resilience will continue to inspire those that have been a part of her life.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her son Chris (Sarah), grandsons Jack and Logan, and her sister Gail.
In honor of Sharon’s final wish, no service will be held. Instead, she hoped that those who wish to remember her would donate to an animal shelter of their choice.
